About the artist
Heri Dono
Born in 1960 in Jakarta, studied at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts in Yogyakarta. Heri Dono is a celebrated Indonesian contemporary artist known for his imaginative, satirical works that blend traditional Indonesian art forms with global and political themes. He incorporating elements of wayang kulit (shadow puppetry), Javanese folklore, and comic-like characters into his art. His unique approach combines painting, installation, and performance to address issues such as corruption, social inequality, and the impact of globalization, often with a touch of humor and surrealism.
